Windows PC guy for 20 years

I used to be a PC guy most of my life. Now I am a Recovering PC addict turned Apple junkie. I hated Apple products and refused to buy one, let alone use it. My Windows computer was my best friend and I loved it. Even despite the fact that windows was the least secure OS out there. And Windows was constantly crashing, or becoming infected with malware. In addition, Windows PC’s are easier to hack.

The only plus side to using Windows is the fact that I got to fix it so much and learned a lot about how computers work. Additionally, I built my own systems and troubleshooted all the time. Mostly because they would crash so frequently. My first Apple product was the iPod 1st generation. I bought it and ended up never using it, so I sold it for 100 bucks.

I disliked how the Apple devices were so tightly integrated. Still, the one thing I hated most about Apple was how expensive they are. I always figured they cost so much because the company was greedy. But that is only half true. I finally switched to Apple. And now, after more than 20 years as a PC guy, I’m officially making the switch. I am now a PC addict turned Apple  junkie.

Learning my way around

About a year ago I started working at a store that sells preowned apple products. My job was to perform service, repair and upgrades on Apple devices. This included computers, iPhones and iPads. Having little experience with Apple,  I needed to change that for me to do my job effectively. So obviously there was an urgent need to learn more about them. And the more I learned the more impressed I became.

I started to see computers that were 7 to 8 years old still in operation. However they didn’t run the newest operating system. But still they operated flawlessly. I saw Macbook pro’s from 2012 running the latest Mac OS, selling for 6 hundred dollars. It was astonishing how easy they were to fix. I could tear a laptop down in less than 20 minutes, and have it fixed in less than an hour. Phones and tablets took a little bit longer, but usually not more than an hour and a half. I have never seen a windows PC older than 6 years running flawlessly. Moreover, I have never seen a PC that old running the newest version of Windows.

I began using iCloud, gaining more and more experience and knowledge in Apple products. Eventually, I had to have one of my own. The integration turned out to be a rather nice feature of Apple. Having impressed me greatly, the urge to buy my own Apple products became overwhelming. Now I own an iPad air and this article is being written on my 13 inch Macbook Pro 2012 model. It is 6 years old and still runs pretty good. I even upgraded it to Mac OS X Mojave, and have no issues whatsoever.

Mac OS even turned out to be quite secure in terms of malware or crashing. Even the hardware is quite simple to replace. Additionally, they are easy to repair as well. The parts tend to be a little pricey, but nothing compared to the new computers. In short, I may never buy a brand new Apple product, but you can bet I will buy more preowned products in the future. I plan to get an iPhone as soon as I can make the switch. And there will be a newer Macbook Pro in my collection very soon I hope.

Apple is still a greedy and shady company. However, their computers and devices are very well made and worth the extra money. They are quality products for sure. Which is why I am now a PC addict turned Apple junkie. I may own a PC in the future, but it will never be my primary computer ever again.
